Nice day today if a bit cool, but just had to try out the new 11" DD wife got me for my F70.

I must say, this coil completely transforms this machine. I am extremely impressed with the razor target separation.

Rings are junk - silver one w/purple stone is plated copper, the other is 18K hge - but still fun to find. Unsure on the pendant - no markings - green stone in the center - jade, maybe? is jade semi-transparent?

All from a local park, sens 85, thresh -2, disc 15, SL mode.

Having a hobby that gets you outside has it's perks. Many times it turns into an adventure that makes a good story. I know this site has a bunch scattered around, I thought it would be a good idea to try to put some in one thread.
Some adventures don't turn out perfect, others have a great outcome.
I'll start with one of my good outcomes.

A few years ago I decided to try a beach pretty far from home. After two hours and one penny to show I decided to call it a day.
On my way back to the car I hunted low, close to the water, when a young girl ran from the dune line straight at me, at first I didn't know what was going on.
When she was about ten feet from me she started asking for my help
It turns out her, her husband and another couple had traveled three house to spend the day at the beach. Late in the afternoon the guys had a rather competitive volleyball game, during the game her husband had lost his wedding ring
For an hour they were poking through the sand with their hands trying to locate the ring, all the while she had been threatening him with bodily and financial harm, those threats did not stop when I arrived.
I started a grid pattern at the dune line, about as long as a volleyball court. All the while they both kept saying I was too high on the beach, I had to move down....in between her threats to him if the ring wasn't found.:
First pass nothing, second pass a target they were both on top of me before I could remove the bottle cap.
More threats for him, than I keep hunting
Two more passes with nothing than it happened. SOLID signal, someplace around silver tone, one dig and I have it in my scoop. As I'm shaking the sand out I hear the unmistakable rap rap in the scoop, it's something heavy and hard, I smiled.
I don't know where the couple was at the time but as soon as I saw the ring in my scoop, reached in to pull it out, a hand grabbed the ring from me so fast I swear I saw a puff of smoke.
Turns out he was on my right and grabbed the ring, she was on my left and let out a scream that scared me

She was so happy she was crying and having trouble walking, he was so happy I think if I had asked for him to pick up a bar tab he would have done it without question.

End result she was very happy, he was safe and very happy and I felt great.
Not a bad day for a finding one zinc penny hunt.

This is a WWII 37mm M2 Canister round! This thing is a BEAST! Must weigh a couple pounds.
We where taking samples of the rock wall (quartz porphyry BTW) next to a quartz vein when suddenly it gave way and opened into a small hole.

We opened it up to see what was inside..

And, of course, began extracting the quartz crystals.
Here is a close up of what we found:
We are to this day still working that place for quartz crystals - more then a year later. Don't know how deep this 'pocket' is.

Well...I went back to the same old place and picked up right where I left off. I can't believe I am still pulling stuff out of the ground! Today I pulled out 14 more coins! 6 were clad, and they were from the 1960's. I think the wheat cents were from the 20's and 30's. (Didn't have my glasses) I found a whole mixed bag of stuff today.

Here's a big 50 Cal. armor piercing round I dug. That's the 3rd or 4th one from this place....

We set of at about 9am this morning and had a leisurely 20 mile drive,
the beach was so well secluded we coudn't gain access to it.
The last time we were there which must be a couple of years ago,
you could drive right up to the back of the dunes.
They blocked the road off about 2 miles short of the beach,
it was rough country and just too much for my legs.
Tried another beach about 7 miles closer to home, no hits at all, so moved to the next beach 1/2 a mile away got a couple of lifts and that beach fell silent.
Moved on to another beach another 7 miles closer to home,
well it was very quiet too except for about 15 bottle tops at around 10-12 inches.
It was really hard goin' but eventually got 2 or 3 more lifts.
The total for about 5 1/2 hours actual hunting time came to;
6 coins for £3:72 = $5:85.
It did turn out a beautiful day with sunshine and blue skies,
with no wind and the temps in the morning 2-3c,
and the afternoon warmed up to 5c.
It was still wonderful to get out on such a nice day for a change.
