.....Well, I think I am...... I've been helping the owner of another Forum and my Computer time is limited. It's good to see ''Detector Stuff '' is still in Cyber Space. Lots of posts since my last visit so I'm going to take some time to read (data mine) everything since my last visit in July. I see that Ian From Scotland is still here, he's the one that dragged me here in the first place, trying to sneak around in that ''goat hat''

I took the family and we headed to VA to visit my Mother for Mother's Day this past weekend. I got to hunt for a few hours with my Dad on Saturday. He got us on a couple KILLER sites! I will share more about it later, so I don't give away the location. One is a home that was built in 1823. The other is a home built in 1876. The old coins eluded us on Saturday, but we both found a few keepers.

These are from the 1823 site...

Here is an old flat button that I really had to work for! 8" deep under a tree root. Thought for sure it was a large cent!

 Double Gilt.jpg (Size: 196.42 KB / Downloads: 3)

Dad scored a nice silver dime, but we were hoping for something about 100 years older! That's OK...he didn't throw it back!

 1935MDOBV.jpg (Size: 218.32 KB / Downloads: 1)

After a couple hours we were standing there talking while I pinpointed a signal. I asked my dad "Where are all the buttons in the place?" I bent down and opened a plug, and look what was looking back at me!

 THEagleObv.jpg (Size: 184.64 KB / Downloads: 1)

We got a good laugh out of that! I just wish I had said "Where's all the Confederate buttons.....or all the gold coins!" Oh well....it's a civil war button, so I'll not complain!

It's a solid button with a Waterbury Button Co * backmark

Here are a few more finds from the 1876 site...

We both found some Indian Head Cents....

And we got a dog tag from 1925

Dad dug this fob that was pretty tough to ID....
But I got it! I hope it cleans up half this good!
Not enough to quit the day job, but we dug a lot of holes and had a ton of fun! Can't wait to get back up there!

I spent the last week working in "Texico" (Laredo) and Dallas, TX. Before I left for the airport, my colleague there dropped these in my hand and said "I understand you like and collect coins". I really didn't know what he was handing me, but I thanked him and cut a trail for the airport. When I got home, I posted them on another forum for some coin experts in the UK to indentify. Here's what I got and here's what they said:
This is 3 Sols - 1734 (Monaco) - Apparently, it's worth a chunk of change!
The 1734 coin is Prince Honoratus III.(Honoré III.)- (1733 - 1793) of Monaco of the house Matignon Grimaldi - could be worth about $600.
Here's the other coin...it's just a LITTLE older!
Here's the general consensus:

This is a CONSTANTIUS II AD347-348 AE3/4 from the Antiochia mint (now Antakiyah, Turkey). There were 15 Officina parts of the Mint of which the S at the end of SMANS was one. So you could have SMANA, SMANB, SMANZ etc to name a few others. Such a coin is normally 15-16mm dia weighing approx 1.67gm. In the Sears(88) volume it is coin Ref No 4000 Obverse showing D N CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG with a Diadem Head right. Reverse is VOT XX MVLT XXX in four lines within a Wreath. In RIC Vol VIII it is like Coin Ref No 113 under Antioch Mint page 521 classified as a common occurrence.

Apparently, it's not terribly valuable, but the date is 347-348AD!

Man...that was before the war! That's now the oldest coin in my collection.

I guess I should send my colleague in Texas a Christmas card this year!

When we started at 04:00 it was obvious that others had been cherry pickin,

due to the extreme lack of the bigger denomination coins.

Eventually we did find some of the bigger ones about £20 worth.

The next time we'll get there first.

But it proves disc can cause ya ta miss a lot too.

We were concentratin', and workin' so hard I never even had time to get the camera out so no pics this time.

Our grand total came to 212 coins for £39:81 = $64:44.

We came home happy but tired. Just woke up 5 minutes ago.
Gonna do a tot lot early mornin' and when we're finished that,

we'll have breakfast and a wee snooze because high tide is at 06:40.

Then follow the tide out around 09:00 - 10:00.

The weather here has been terrible, high winds and heavy rain.
But I'm confident we should come home with a reasonable clad haul anyway.
