My BMW 3 Series is four years old, and for the last two weeks the front wheels have been covered in black dust, and there is a soft grinding sound when I brake at low speed. A friend with the same car says BMW brakes are known for dust and that I am worrying too much. Another friend says grinding is never normal and I should not wait. I live in Dubai and drive about forty minutes each way to work, mostly in stop and go traffic, and the car has about seventy thousand kilometres. At the last service the advisor said the pads and discs are low, and the quote was so high that I asked him to repeat it. I looked online for a Best BMW brake pad replacement in Dubai, but every page said best quality and best price, so I still do not know what a fair number looks like. Do BMW pads and discs have to be changed together? Is it true there is a wear sensor that must be replaced every time? Is it worth paying for original parts, or are good aftermarket ones fine? Should the shop reset the service light after the job? Is it normal to ask for the old pads back? Also, how long does the job take, and can I wait at the shop? If you changed brakes on your BMW lately, please tell me what you paid, what parts you chose, and what you would do differently. Easy answers help me most.
