My wife called me yesterday evening sounding very stressed, and I am still sorting out what happened. She drives a 2019 Hyundai Tucson and was coming back from buying groceries when the car coughed twice and stopped at the side of a narrow road. She had a small child in the back seat, so I could hear the panic in her voice. When I got there, the fuel needle was sitting almost on empty, and I felt bad because I had told her I would fill the tank over the weekend and forgot. We stood there for a while trying to decide what to do. My friend on the phone said I should just walk to a station and bring a bottle of petrol back. My brother said that is unsafe and illegal in many places, and that I should never carry loose fuel in a bottle. I did not want to leave her and the child alone on the road, so we waited. I read a page from a workshop in Sharjah about roadside help, and it explained that a proper service confirms your fuel type and exact location before coming, and that the driver should carry fuel in approved containers. That made me realize how risky my bottle idea really was. Since we stay close to Al Qusais, I typed Quick emergency petrol delivery near Al Qusais Industrial Area into my phone later that night, mostly to see how fast these services reach a stranded car and whether women alone on the road can feel safe using them. So here is what I want to ask. If your car runs dry, do you stay inside with the doors locked or wait outside the vehicle? Does the driver usually bring enough fuel to restart the engine and reach a station, or just a few litres? Also, after running dry, is there any risk of damage, like to the fuel pump or the filter? I heard something like that but I am not sure it is true. One more thing, should my wife share her live location with someone every time she drives alone, just in case? If you or your family went through this, please tell me how it went and what you did afterward. Thanks everyone.
