I have been thinning down by giving some away to guys I hunted with in NC, I also gave a Tesoro and a 3000 to my greatgrand kids here . I had plans on picking up a CZ21 but at my age didn't want to spring for a new one. The ones I have are good machines and cover most any hunt I will be getting into. I think I am down to 6 😀
I go along with Ian – actual videos of different detectors used on the beach with their settings. I use the Minelabs so have no problem but often talk with new hunters that get quite frustrated going near the water. Usually I can tweak their sensitivity to allow them to hunt but they lose a lot of depth. Some schooling on this might be a big help. Miss Mary uses the Omega but it gets jumpy near the water.
IAN says,”I've been digging everything in the 80s for such a long time without any silver results. So it was a good feeling when it finally happened” – tried to copy just part and goofed ;D I know how this is - I did finally hit a solid silver number this last beach trip and when I dug it it was actually a nice silver 925 ring
Way to go – glad someone is keeping the hunt going. Always nice to pick up some silver along the way. Your bad coin count still puts our good ones to shame. Usually if we find a couple of dollars worth we feel we have had a good day. It seems we do find a little more bling than you do - I will have to start posting "All" our finds when the season starts ;D
Dirt digging has you down on your knees a lot. Gets a little iffy in mid summer when the snakes are out. I pretty much hunt with my meter when I'm in someones nice yard - call it cherry picking, just digging what is a good signal. This probably leaves some good targets but it saves the lawn and my creaky old knees and back 😀
That's the same with us Ian. We go south about 7oo miles but that puts us in the serious beach hunter region. I have to use some old tricks to even find a signal. The new drops are usually pretty well cleaned out by the time we get there. It is a little more interesting up where I live because we have old sites like lumber camps and coal mine towns that still give up some nice finds. Not always a lot of them but enough to keep you looking. Biggest drawback now is my age. I don't stoop as well as I used to :'(
2 in the morn is way to early even for fishing 8) That wind can take the fun out of most anything. We are starting to have some warm days as we head in to our mid-winter thaw but not enough to get detecting. Next week it will be heading back down as the cold settles in again. Keep posting as it gets my heart pumping. Have fun - listen to your lady
