WOW! Now I am envious. We are still froze in but the week ahead looks pretty good. It will take some really warm weather to knock the frost out of the ground. You have a nice bunch of coins there. I will post my first hunt regardless what I find. Even the guys who boil sap for syrup have not started yet this year. We are running about a month behind. It was still below zero F yesterday morn. 9 F this morn.
Yeah I see what you are saying Mark Do we want the design to stay within the stable or do we want to control it. I think I want the control because I hunt in so many types of soil. It would be difficult for me to trust my detector under some of the situations. The SE tops out at 31 but a lot of places I am around 15 which is the factory setting. I do hunt in manual and on the beach I am quite often around 22 but seldom higher. I like the idea that I have the choice of going higher even if it chatters 8)
The chatter gets to me after awhile. I use the meter for ID most of the time so can hunt through the noise but do believe some deep quiet signals are lost when running too hot. I run a little higher than norm on old school grounds, or fairgrounds that have been hunted hard. The extra depth has given me some silver coins that have been passed over in earlier years. I meet some on the beach that run their detectors at max sensitivity but this is way too unstable for me to enjoy. The idea behind the top of the line was to give a detector that could be used on the beach and be stable. I don't understand the reasoning behind running it unstable??
I see a lot of hunters with that approach. They do really well on fresh drops and cover a lot of ground. They laugh at us for taking so much time to dig deep stuff. This style leaves a lot of stuff to keep Miss Mary and me busy when we get our time at the beach. That style doesn't work at all up here in the woods and hills. ;D
Years back I used to dig through the mags. but this area has a lot of old mining towns and logging camps so I usually just spend time in them until the bugs and snakes get to bad. Then I hit the old parks and swimming holes. Our area has a lot of old fair grounds that have been hunted hard but the Minelabs go deep enough to give me new finds - if I want to dig that deep 😛 I'm with Ian - I watch the sites to see what is going on. There are a lot of good videos showing different styles and different machines used. Come October Miss Mary and I hit the beach for a month of daily detecting. Probably get more hours in then than many do all year. We just try to keep it fun
Nice bunch of targets. I am really getting the itch but we have another big storm coming. The temperature is staying down even during the storms so the ground will have to wait for the thaw to remove the snow before I can even hunt the low lands :'( Keep posting your hunts and finds - helps to break up my cabin fever. 😀 Congrats on your special day. Not too many make 45
Interesting thoughts there. I air test mostly to check meter readings but in doing also notice distance from coil to check sensitivity, Sensitivity used depends on what type of area I am hunting so I get a general idea how deep I am looking. I do think there is a certain kind of conductivity involved when a coin has been buried for a time "HALO" some call it. This shows when you disturb the dirt and the signal seems to disappear.Thin dimes seem to be good at this 😀
